Care & Maintenance of Sunbrella Fabric
Sunbrella is a brand of fabric highly recognized as exceptional for quality and durability. A furniture purchase which includes Sunbrella fabrics is an investment to be enjoyed for years. With some very simple care and maintenance practices, these fabrics are designed to withstand the worst that nature can throw at them.
Sunbrella fabrics are solution-dyed and woven to ensure long lasting color and durability. The fabric is also treated with a special product to enhance water repellency. Sunbrella fabrics will not promote any growth of mold or mildew. However, dirt and stains left on the fabric can sustain mold growth. This is why removing visible and hidden dirt is essential to maintain the integrity of your Sunbrella fabrics.
The first step is simply to brush away and visible dirt or debris. Although there is no strict timeline for deeper cleaning of these fabrics, regular cleaning is necessary. The location of the fabric is the biggest determinant for the frequency and level of cleaning. A humid climate with heavy foliage will require much more frequent cleaning compared with a dry, sunny area. Sunbrella fabrics will shrink if exposed to high temperatures (>100 degrees). Therefore, if the fabrics need a general cleaning washing on a gentle cycle with cool water and a mild detergent is all that is required. Never put Sunbrella fabrics in a dryer. They are made to air dry quickly. Spot cleaning can be performed using a 1 : 50 solution of household detergent to water. Simply apply the cleaning solution, gently scrub the affected area, rinse thoroughly, and allow to air dry. Although not necessary, covering any Sunbrella fabrics when not in use will protect and extend the life of these products.
In general, performing simple care and maintenance techniques will allow Sunbrella fabrics to function beautifully for years.
